Affordable Care Act Information

Starting in 2014, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires large employers to offer insurance coverage to their full-time employees, defined as one who is employed on average at least 30 hours per week. AFT has been following the ACA closely and has developed a website that may be helpful for you as you have questions about coverage. This information can also be useful for bargaining.

Mader v. Health Care Authority - Class Action Settlement

The 2004 class action lawsuit that which established that part-time faculty are eligible for paid health benefits from the State of Washington if they meet certain conditions. Ruth Mader (AFT Seattle Local 1789 member) and Teresa Knudsen are the plaintiffs who brought this lawsuit on behalf of themselves and the class members. Link to the Class Action Settlement Agreement Notice here.
