Christine Landon

Christine Landon is a lifelong Washingtonian, raised on both sides of the mountains and a multiple degree holder from the University of Washington. After a broad variety of jobs working her way through school, she earned teaching and administrative credentials and worked in K-12 education in Seattle, La Conner, the Muckleshoot Tribe and Portland. Her gender transition led to her leaving K-12 for higher education in the mid-1990s. She taught ethnic studies as an adjunct professor at North Seattle (then, Community) College and Shoreline Community College, spending a year in between doing online course development at Highline Community College. She’s a published author and has edited or contributed to several others’ books. A committed unionist, she was elected to the boards of the Seattle and Shoreline locals and served both for years on their respective agreement management committees as well as several years as a delegate to the Martin Luther King Central Labor Council. She’s had lots of other professional and community experiences; just ask her. Mitakuye oyaŝin!

 


Cortney Marabetta

Cortney Marabetta comes to AFT Washington with a background in a varied swath of industries and roles: editor at a gaming company, web developer at a non-profit trade organization, freelancer, adjunct professor at the Seattle Colleges, bartender, and more. The common thread is the how and the what of communication. She has degrees from South Seattle College, The Evergreen State College, and Oxford University, an educational path as varied as her professional path. In her personal time, she does public speaking, and enjoys learning new maker skills.

James To has served as the Operations Manager for AFT Washington since May 2018. His labor background started in grocery retail as a member of UFCW 21 for 15 years. He moved into the nonprofit sector as a program manager and later Finance and Operations Director for a labor-founded leadership development organization. From there, James returned to UFCW 21 as Benefits Director, helping members access and troubleshoot their health and pension benefits. He has degrees in philosophy and accounting from the University of Washington. Outside of work he is an avid cook and enjoys strategic boardgames.
